Hip-hop royalty Chris Brown's latest album, Royalty Deluxe Edition, was released on 23rd November 2017. This album has received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike due to its use of a variety of different styles and genres. Royalty Deluxe Edition is a '90s-inspired hip-hop album with heavy production featuring fast raps and slow love ballads. The lyrics in this album are very much about the sadness of fame, the ups and downs that come with fame, stories from Chris' life, personal emotions that come into play when you're in debt or when you're feeling regretful etc. However, the album does have a few stand out tracks. The song "Hey Love" is an upbeat pop ballad with featuring singer Tory Lanez. It's about the struggles of finding commonalities with someone you go to bed with but can't stand in the morning. It's undoubtedly one of my favourite songs on the album because it's so relatable for anyone who has had this experience. "Fine China" is also another standout track that talks, not only about Chris' own feelings, but also how fame has affected many others that he knows personally. The title track "Royalty Deluxe" talks about Chris' struggles growing up and wanting to be accepted by his peers and family, but not really getting what he wanted. He states that although he's "been through it all" and came out on top, he wants his fans to know that he still has the same feelings and is just like them. "She Ain't You" is a slow sultry ballad featuring American rapper Future. The lyrics talk about the love that Chris wants in his life and the features in this song really help with Chris expressing his emotions in a way that we can all relate to. The last track on the Deluxe Edition album, "Best Mistake" features singer Kehlani and producer PartyNextDoor. This song talks about Chris' experience of being in a relationship with a woman who is not his partner or his partner's partner so it's full of love, anger and frustration. Overall, the album does well in showcasing Chris' struggles growing up and going through fame, but unfortunately it has a lot of filler tracks that just don't have the punch that a lot of fans would be expecting from a future Grammy winner.
